Ana Patel, Executive Director, receives 2016 Rotary Peace Fellowship

Jeff_Pflueger_MG_0304Outward Bound Peacebuilding is pleased to announce that Ana Patel , Executive Director, has been selected to receive a 2016 Rotary Peace Fellowship for studies as part of the Rotary Peace Centers program. The Rotary Foundation and their university partners considered candidates from all over the world for the Rotary Peace Fellowships in a highly competitive selection process. Supported by Rotary District 5100 in Portland, Oregon, Ana was a top choice for the 2016 Fellowship. I know you share my immense pride in this significant achievement.

Ana will join the Rotary Peace Center at Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, Thailand from June 10th to August 26th, 2016. She will engage in study of conflict analysis, program evaluation and non-violent interventions; field visits to southern Thailand and neighboring countries; and teaching experiential peace building. During this time, she will also write the first article on experiential peacebuilding for publication.

Rotary International has been a wonderful partner and ally for Outward Bound Peacebuilding. In 2015, Ana addressed delegates at the 2015 Rotary Peace Symposium in Sao Paolo, as well as the Rotary World Peace Conference in 2016, and she has visited and spoken to Rotary Clubs from Ashland, Oregon to Kigali, Rwanda. We are grateful to Outward Bound Peacebuilding adviser Peter Kyle for his advice and guidance to Ana in this process. We look forward to many years of collaboration and shared success.

Through academic training, study, and practice the Rotary Peace Centers program develops leaders who become catalysts for peace and conflict prevention and resolution in their communities and around the globe. Graduates of the program are reintegrating refugees in Sudan, creating jobs for disadvantaged women in India, and supporting reconstruction in devastated regions of the world.
