Outward Bound Center for Peacebuilding (“Outward Bound Peacebuilding”) is looking for an entrepreneurial trailblazer to bring their creative energy to our work – strengthening current programming and taking the organization to new frontiers geographically and programmatically. The Position

Reporting to the Executive Director (ED), the Director of Programs (Director) is responsible for designing and implementing the organization’s global programs. Building on current programs, including the Palestinian – Israeli Emerging Leaders Program, the Director will lead the effort to develop and document the experiential peacebuilding methodology in order to expand the work of Outward Bound Peacebuilding to new communities, countries, and throughout the Outward Bound School network. The Director will work closely with the organization’s ED to identify new partners, develop curriculum, recruit and train new instructor/facilitators, and keep staff and participants safe. The position includes significant international travel to conduct safety site visits for new program areas; meet Outward Bound Schools and other organizational partners; connect with participants; and train and evaluate staff.


  • – Manage, facilitate and deliver experiential peacebuilding programs safely
  • – Lead the safety and risk management work of the entire organization
  • – Create and develop new experiential peacebuilding programs
  • – Manage partner relationships with Outward Bound Schools and other organizations
  • – Design curriculum and facilitator training materials
  • – Implement evaluation processes and other means of documenting the work
  • – Recruit, train, coach and manage instructors/facilitators to work on our programs
  • – Serve as Liaison to relevant Board Committees
  • – Produce annual work plan
  • – Support organizational learning by integrating new knowledge and best practices from the experiential education and peacebuilding fields.
  • – Contribute to communications, outreach, recruitment and fundraising materials
  • – Develop productive relationships throughout the Outward Bound International network.


  • – BA (required), MA (preferred)
  • – 10-plus years’ diverse experience in program management and development
  • – WFR and 10 years+ track record of success in program safety and risk management
  • – Experience in moving programs from concept to delivery and evaluation
  • – Experience with programming related to peacebuilding and conflict transformation
  • – Demonstrated excellence in organizational, managerial, and communication skills
  • – Creativity, innovation, independence, and self-direction.
  • – Ability to identify opportunities, seek new approaches and follow through
  • – Positive attitude and sense of humor
