The Palestinian – Israeli Emerging Leaders Program is an expedition-based leadership initiative jointly facilitated by Outward Bound Peacebuilding and Search for Common Ground Jerusalem. The Program engages professionals from diverse sectors, political affiliations and religious backgrounds, in order to build popular support among influential Israelis and Palestinians for a peaceful resolution of the conflict. Leaders hike and climb in remote locations such as the mountains of Croatia, where team-building and shared challenges build trust, friendship… and hope. Each group then continues to interact after their expedition, forming a foundation of dialogue and civil contacts that builds peace from the grass-roots up. So far the four cadres has included social entrepreneurs, emerging political leaders, business figures and religious leaders. A special group of Israeli and Palestinian women will make up the next cohort.

Speakers on Wednesday night will include Liat Hadad, a Jewish Israeli, an alum of the 2011 Palestinian – Israeli Emerging Business Leaders cadre, who had never met a Palestinian before she joined the program, and Aladin Hamdan, a Palestinian with Israeli citizenship, an alum of the 2009 Palestinian – Israeli Young Social Entrepreneurs cadre. In his professional capacity, Aladin is the head of the research department at the Association for the Advancement of Civic Equality in Israel.

Ana Patel, Executive Director of Outward Bound Peacebuilding will also participate. Her co-edited volume, Disarming the Past: Transitional Justice and Ex-combatants was published in January 2010.

Join us for this special evening of dialogue and exploration, sponsored by Temple Shalom of Chevy Chase, MD; Temple Emanuel of Kensington, MD, and Outward Bound Peacebuilding.
