The Outward Bound/Search for Common Ground Social Entrepreneurs Program is moving forward and recruitment begins in September 2008. The Outward Bound Center for Peacebuilding and Search for Common Ground are working closely on the development and plans for evaluation of this program. The Outward Bound Center for Peacebuilding is continuing its 2008 capacity building consultation and seed funding grants to Outward Bound Rwanda. Outward Bound Rwanda has recently secured partial funding for the acquisition of a parcel of land to serve as the Outward Bound Rwanda base camp. The Sri Lanka Journalist Leadership Program, serving staff and students of the Sri Lanka Press Institute (SLPI) College of Journalism, will take place the first week of September 2008. Preceding the program, the Outward Bound Center for Peacebuilding will provide a specialized peacebuilding training program to the Outward Bound Sri Lanka instructors who will deliver the Journalist Leadership Program. On July 7 the Development Committee of the Board of Directors and guests met at the offices of Duane Morris LLP in New York City to participate in a discussion with David Bornstein, author of How to Change The World: Social Entrepreneurs and the Power of New Ideas. The discussion was both provocative and productive, and we thank everyone who attended for their thoughtful participation.
The Outward Bound Center for Peacebuilding is joined this summer by two associates: Tara Medeiros, a graduate student at Tufts University’s Fletcher School of International Affairs, and Sandra Tumwesigye, a student at the University of Pavia in Italy. Tara will be with us through mid-August, and Sandra will continue through December 2008.
